The Mineralogical Association of Canada (MAC) was formed in 1955 as a non-profit scientific organization to promote and advance the knowledge of mineralogy and the allied disciplines of crystallography, petrology, geochemistry and mineral deposits. Through its annual meetings, short courses, publications and sponsored symposia, the Association provides a forum for the presentation and dissemination of current knowledge and advances to world-wide community of earth scientists. Ever since its inception, MAC has given special attention to mineral deposits geology, particularly in organizing symposia, short courses and publishing special volumes and short-course notes on the subject.
JournalThe Canadian Mineralogist: the journal of the Mineralogical Association of Canada Since 1962, The Canadian Mineralogist has published papers dealing with all aspects of mineralogy,crystallography, petrology, geochemistry and mineral deposits. More than 1600 pages a year on the mineral sciences: Mineralogy 23%, Petrology 11%, Crystallography 12%, Economic Geology 30%, Geochemistry 24% The Canadian Mineralogist reaches subscribers and members in over 50 countries.
The MAC belongs to a group of mineralogical and geochemical participative societies publishing Elements".
Thematic issues The Canadian Mineralogist regularly features timely thematic issues. On average, one of these is published each year. It is one of the six issues made available to the subscribers. Topics In Mineral Sciences, formerly Short-Course Volumes Since 1969, MAC has sponsored short courses at its annual meetings. The notes distributed to the registrants are published in a series of short-course volumes. Many of these are still available and have stood the test of time. Special Publications This series aims to provide reference books and textbooks in the mineral sciences. Education Publications This series aims to provide reference books and textbooks to the geologists in the field, mineral collectors as well as students and professors in the lab.
